Actor R Madhavan recently gave fans a glimpse into one of the most memorable moments from the shoot of Aditya Dhar’s high-octane thriller Dhurandhar, sharing a behind-the-scenes story that perfectly blends humour, chaos, and cinematic magic.
Posting a throwback video from the dramatic landscapes of Leh and Ladakh on Instagram, Madhavan revealed how unexpected weather turned what was meant to be a sunny, perfectly planned scene into a rain-soaked spectacle — and how it ended up working in the film’s favour.
In the clip, the skies are grey and the rain relentless, with R. Madhavan joking about his on-set reputation. “Oh, the beautiful Leh and Ladakh! It was supposed to be a sunny day, but as luck would have it, I brought in the rains wherever I go, apparently. We are shooting the scene without the sun and in the rain. Hopefully, it will occur as good luck for the film. What a beautiful place, my God!" he said, giving fans a peek at the stunning yet moody backdrop.
The sequence he referred to was the film’s opening, where his character, intelligence officer Ajay Sanyal, lands in Afghanistan to confront terrorists of the IC814 hijack.
What was originally imagined as a bright, sunlit scene to contrast serenity and violence ended up drenched in rain, lending a brooding, atmospheric tone that heightened the tension and drama.
R. Madhavan reflected on this twist of fate in his Instagram caption: “#Dhurandhar. Aditya had always imagined this to be a bright sunny day with blue skies to show the contrast between the beauty and the beast inside the plane. As luck could have it, I brought in the rain because I was referred to as the rainman on the set."
He added, with his signature humour, “Every time I came onto the set, there was torrential rain. But these grey skies and the look worked out perfectly for the first shot. Sometimes it’s best to go with what is handed to you because a bigger design is in place (hug face, raised hands and red heart emojis)."
Fans flooded the post with praise for the sequence and R. Madhavan’s commanding presence. Comments ranged from, “The opening scene makes the movie something epic… The encounter between the Indian Intelligence Head and the Terrorists. Your fearless body language. Magnificent acting @actormaddy sir," to, “The God of rains shows His Benevolence on the chosen ones."
Dhurandhar, which hit theatres on 5 December, stars a powerhouse ensemble including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal and Rakesh Bedi.
The film started streaming on Netflix on 30 January, with its sequel already scheduled for 19 March.
Set against real-life events such as the Kandahar hijack and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the film is produced by B62 Studios and Jio Studios, blending gripping storytelling with high-stakes action.
