For Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi, the early years of marriage and parenthood were far from picture-perfect — and they are now speaking about that phase with rare honesty.
Married in 1992 and parents to their first son Aaryamann by 1994, the couple recently revisited those emotionally difficult years in a candid vlog on Archana Puran Singh’s YouTube channel.
What began as a reflective conversation quickly turned into an open reckoning. When Parmeet Sethi spoke about not realising how much his life would change after becoming a father, Archana did not hold back. “How did your life change? Because for the first few years you were absent,” she said, capturing years of unspoken hurt in one sentence.
Parmeet Sethi admitted to falling short when it mattered most. He described himself as “a very bad father” during Aaryamann’s early years and said his role felt like a mere “guest appearance” until their second son Ayushmaan was born.
He also revealed that both pregnancies were unplanned, though Archana clarified that she had wanted a second child. Reflecting on that phase, she shared that she became a mother at 36 and had her second child at 39, calling it “very old for a mother”.
A shift, Parmeet said, came during Archana’s second pregnancy. “I saw Aaryamann realising that the conversation had shifted from him to someone else,” he recalled. “That’s when I realised that he will not get as much attention… That’s when I started spending time with him, playing with him. I became his father in the true sense.”
For Archana Puran Singh, the loneliness of those early years was harder to forget. “Just like you were not aware of what I was going through during my pregnancy, you didn’t pay attention to what a woman goes through after the baby. I was so weak during that time and you were missing,” she said. She remembered waking up at least six times every night to feed and check on the baby. “I thought, why isn’t Bittu sharing my load? Then you convinced me, ‘What can I do? I can’t feed the baby,’” she added.
Parmeet Sethi acknowledged it plainly. “I didn’t help you. At least for the first 3 years of Aaryamann’s life, I didn’t help you at all… I am admitting it.”
An anniversary dinner further exposed the strain. Archana recalled being too exhausted to step out. “I was so sleep deprived… and you were so angry with me,” she said. Parmeet responded by questioning whether his role as a husband had been overlooked, calling it a “very touch and go situation”.
As emotions surfaced, Archana stood firm. Motherhood, she said, was the greater responsibility at that time.
