Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi recently returned to his roots for a visit that was as emotional as it was deeply grounding. He travelled to his ancestral village, Belsand, in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, to mark the death anniversary of his mother.
The visit unfolded during the gentle arrival of spring. Mustard fields were in full bloom, the air carried a lingering winter chill, and the village felt wrapped in warmth and familiarity.
After performing prayers in his mother’s memory, Pankaj Tripathi spent time with villagers, listening, reminiscing and simply being present. Away from film sets, cameras and acclaim, he appeared completely at ease, blending effortlessly into the everyday rhythm of village life.
As night fell, the village came alive with a traditional fagua singing gathering — a folk celebration closely tied to the onset of spring and the lead-up to Holi. Sitting among the villagers, Pankaj Tripathi joined in, singing age-old fagua songs to the steady beat of the dholak.
As per News 4 Nation, reflecting on the experience, Pankaj Tripathi said, “This journey has been incredibly joyful for me. It’s springtime — the mustard flowers are in bloom, there’s a gentle chill in the air, and everything feels beautiful. I share a deep connection with this land. My parents’ memories live here. Getting the chance to sing fagua, which is slowly becoming rare for today’s generation, feels special. It’s something we must preserve.”
He added, “I come from this soil, and I can never be separated from it. This bond will remain with me for life.” Through Zee Media, Pankaj Tripathi also conveyed his greetings to the people of Bihar, extending warm wishes for the spring season.
Despite reaching remarkable heights in Hindi cinema, Pankaj Tripathi’s humility and emotional bond with his village resonated far beyond Belsand, reminding many that true success is rooted in staying connected to one’s origins.
Adding to his recent milestones, National Award winner Pankaj Tripathi and his wife Mridula have achieved another first together. Their maiden theatre production, Lailaaj — a musical comedy staged under their banner Roopkatha Rangmanch — has been officially selected for the prestigious Bharat Rang Mahotsav.
Hosted by the National School of Drama in Delhi, Bharat Rang Mahotsav is India’s largest and most respected theatre festival.
Now in its landmark 25th year, the festival will run across January and February, bringing together acclaimed productions from India and around the world — marking yet another meaningful chapter in Pankaj Tripathi’s artistic journey.
