  • Rani Mukerji returns as Shivani Roy in a gripping crime thriller about missing girls.
  • Mardaani remains India's biggest solo female-led cop franchise

Yash Raj Films have finally given audiences a first proper look at Mardaani 3, unveiling the trailer after recently announcing a change in the film’s release plans.

The highly anticipated third instalment of the franchise will now hit cinemas earlier than expected, with the studio confirming January 30, 2026, as the new release date instead of the originally scheduled February 27.

The trailer wastes no time in reminding viewers why Shivani Shivaji Roy remains one of Hindi cinema’s most formidable on-screen cops. Rani Mukerji returns in a fierce, stripped-back avatar, taking on what appears to be her most emotionally charged mission yet.

Dark, tense and unflinching, Mardaani 3 sets up a brutal race against time as Shivani hunts down dangerous forces responsible for the disappearance of several young girls across the country.

Visually, the trailer leans into a grittier tone, with Rani Mukerji seen charging through dangerous situations, confronting violence head-on, and piecing together clues that lead her deeper into a chilling underworld.

The conflict is framed as a battle between Shivani’s unwavering sense of justice and deeply sinister evil, with no room for hesitation and no guarantee of mercy.

Sharing the trailer on social media, Yash Raj Films wrote, “It is a race against time & there will be no mercy. Shivani Shivaji Roy is back to rescue girls who go missing without a trace.

Mardaani 3 Trailer out now. #Mardaani3 releasing only in cinemas near you on 30th Jan.”

For over a decade now, the Mardaani franchise has held a unique space in Hindi cinema. It is widely recognised as the biggest solo female-led franchise in the industry and the only successful female-led cop series in India.

Through its previous instalments, the films have earned respect for placing a woman at the centre of hard-hitting crime narratives without softening the subject matter.

Directed by Abhiraj Minawala, Mardaani 3 once again sees Rani Mukerji step into the shoes of Shivani Shivaji Roy — a character defined by grit, compassion and an unshakeable moral compass.

The newly unveiled poster reinforces this intensity, showing Rani Mukerji holding a gun and staring straight at the camera.

Behind her, a group of girls stand close together, their faces marked with the word ‘missing’, hinting at the heartbreaking case that drives the story.
