For many film lovers, Yuva was never just another release, it was a moment.
Now, over two decades later, PVR INOX Limited is bringing Mani Ratnam’s powerful political drama back to cinemas on 20 February, inviting audiences to relive the intensity, passion and raw energy that made it unforgettable.
Set against the restless backdrop of Kolkata, Yuva told the intersecting stories of young men navigating love, ambition, anger and political awakening. It explored class divides, corruption, masculinity and idealism with a realism that felt urgent at the time — and still feels strikingly relevant today.
Backed by A. R. Rahman’s evocative music and anchored by memorable performances from Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Esha Deol and Sonu Sood, the film became a turning point in many of their careers.
For Vivek Oberoi, the film holds deeply personal meaning. Speaking about the re-release, he said, "I am thrilled to announce the re-release of one of my most favourite films, Yuva, on Feb 20th at PVR INOX. This film will always be incredibly special to me. It came at a very important time in my life and pushed me as an actor in ways I hadn't experienced before. Working with the legendary director Mani Ratnam Sir, sharing the screen with such amazing, incredibly talented co-actors and being a part of a story that spoke so powerfully about youth, the politics and change, it shaped me both personally and professionally. The energy, the music, the absolute madness of Kolkata and the passion that we all poured into it. Yuva wasn't just a film that we made; it was a whole vibe. I am so excited that a whole new generation will get to watch it on the big screen. See you at the movies!"
Esha Deol echoed the sentiment, sharing, “Yuva was such a special journey for me, especially working with Mani sir, Ajay, Surya in the Tamil version. And you know, it's part of being a film which was youth-centric, and this film stays in all our hearts forever. All the best for the re-release of Yuva.”
Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist, PVR INOX Ltd., said, “Re-releasing a landmark film like Yuva is part of our commitment at PVR INOX to celebrate cinematic legacy while introducing timeless stories to newer audiences. Mani Ratnam’s vision, the powerful performances by its ensemble cast, and the film’s stirring music make Yuva just as relevant even today. The film explored themes of love, rebellion and class, capturing the pulse of a generation with honesty and intensity. We look forward to welcoming both long-time fans and first-time viewers to experience Yuva on the big screen.”
For audiences who grew up with the film, the re-release offers nostalgia.
