Kishore Kumar, whose real name was Abhas Kumar Ganguly, was born in Khandwa, now in Madhya Pradesh.

He has set a record to be the only vocalist to have performed in over 90 films for a single hero, Rajesh Khanna. He sang 245 songs starring Rajesh Khanna in 92 films, setting a record for singer-actor collaborations. Besides Rajesh Khanna, Kishore sang 202 songs for Jeetendra, 202, 119 songs for Dev Anand, 119 and 131 for Amitabh Bachchan.

Kishore Kumar passed away on October 13, 1987, in Bombay after suffering a major heart attack. He was 58 years old.
