‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2,’ directed by Anukalp Goswami, releases in theatres on 12 December and features Kapil Sharma, Manjot Singh, Vipin Sharma, Akhilendra Mishra, Sushant Singh and the late Asrani.
A film that knows its game‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2’ is a film that knows exactly what it wants to offer. It tries to deliver humour and make you laugh at the one-liners and odd behaviour of its characters. It works at times and slips at times. You enjoy some moments but also wonder what just happened. The film never tries to be anything more than light fun because when Kapil Sharma is around, you already know the tone. The comedy stays simple and follows a man who ends up marrying three women from different religions, which leads to a nonstop attempt to hide each marriage from the other. This film does not demand much from you and functions as easy entertainment. It moves with an easy rhythm that keeps the mood light even when the confusion grows.
Three marriages and endless liesSet in Bhopal, the story follows Mohan (Kapil Sharma), who loves Sanya (Hira Warina) and hopes to marry her, but due to unexpected turns and pressure, he does not marry her and instead gets tied to Ruhi (Ayesha Khan), Meena (Tridha Choudhury), and Jenny (Parul Gulati), who belong to different religions. Mohan’s only support is his closest friend Hubby (Manjot Singh), who knows every detail about him and becomes the one who keeps saving him from being caught by any of the wives. His lies finally begin to collapse when Jenny’s brother, who is a cop, is asked to track him down. He does not know that Mohan, Mahmood, and Michael are the same man, but when someone at a blood donation camp sees him giving blood as three people, the truth starts closing in on him. The mess he walks into becomes funnier because every solution only creates a fresh problem.
Chaos driven by a restless screenplay‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2’ offers many laugh-out-loud scenes, and several of them land well. While the spotlight remains firmly on Kapil Sharma, the supporting cast, including Manjot Singh, Vipin Sharma, and Akhilendra Mishra, lift the film in a big way. Smita Jaikar joins the fun midway. The screenplay moves quickly with no dull patch, and something keeps happening at all times. The film carries the tone of the first film and does not bring much that can be dubbed as novelty. The humour stays loud and direct in most places. Even when the jokes feel familiar, the pace makes sure nothing overstays its welcome.
Veterans bring zing to the plotKapil Sharma shows sharp comic timing and plays a man who is always stressed and running from one problem to another with the aim of concealing his three marriages. Yet you do feel he could have added more depth since he has shown great natural skill in films like ‘Zwigato’ and ‘Crew.’ Manjot Singh provides excellent support and is impressive as Hubby, and his scenes with Kapil bring some of the loudest laughs. Parul Gulati as Jenny, Ayesha Khan as Ruhi, and Tridha Choudhary as Meena are fine in their parts. The real highlights are Vipin Sharma and Akhilendra Mishra. Vipin Sharma as Ruhi’s father is excellent, and his constant chase for Mahmood adds to the fun. Akhilendra Mishra as Mohan’s father is equally strong and is hilarious in the climax scene. The late Asrani appears briefly and once again shows his natural sense of humour.
A climax built on controlled madnessAfter a long time you get to see a climax scene in a Bollywood film where almost every character is present. It brings back memories of climax scenes from Priyadarshan’s comedies. The ending mixes slapstick with straight-faced humour and those moments hold the film together. ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2’ stays within a tried and tested zone and follows a comic tone that feels close to Priyadarshan and David Dhawan, though not at par. It aims for that zone and manages to hit and miss at the same time. By the time everything explodes on screen, the film embraces its madness with full confidence. Keep your expectations in check and you will probably enjoy the ride.
