The Supreme Court on Friday sought a response from Karisma Kapoor regarding a plea filed by Priya Sachdev Kapur, who is seeking a certified copy of the divorce settlement concluded in 2016 between her late husband Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor in the apex court. According to reports, Karisma Kapoor’s legal team has already responded to the claims.
This case has drawn attention because Priya Sachdev Kapur, the widow of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, is involved in a legal battle in the Delhi High Court.
According to ANI, the bench, led by Justice AS Chandurkar, discussed the matter during the hearing. Karisma Kapoor’s lawyer opposed the plea, saying it is trivial and seeks to uncover personal and confidential information. However, the Supreme Court instructed the former actress to formally present her objections within two weeks and submit a complete response.
On the other side, senior advocate Maninder Singh represented Priya Sachdev Kapur. The application filed by Sunjay Kapur’s widow was called, “Priya Kapur Seeks Supreme Court Nod for Certified Divorce Records, Cites Succession Proceedings.”
In the application, Priya Sachdev Kapur stated that she is the direct and legal heir to her late husband’s estate as his wedded wife. She approached the Supreme Court seeking certified copies of the full records of Transfer Petition (Civil) No. 214 of 2016, which arose from the divorce proceedings between Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor.
In a related development from September last year, Karisma Kapoor’s two children had moved the Delhi High Court seeking a share in their late father Sunjay Kapur’s assets and challenged his will dated March 21, 2025, which reportedly bequeaths his entire personal estate to his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur.
On Friday, the bench of Justice AS Chandurkar heard Priya Sachdev Kapur’s plea in chambers and, according to sources, asked Karisma Kapoor to respond within two weeks.
Sources further revealed that Karisma Kapoor’s counsel opposed the plea, raising objections regarding its maintainability on the grounds that Priya Sachdev Kapur is an unrelated third party to the 2016 settlement and therefore lacks locus standi.
Meanwhile, Priya Sachdev Kapur’s counsel argued that the requested documents are directly relevant to the ongoing estate litigation in the Delhi High Court, where matters relating to financial provisions, child support, and post-divorce obligations have been repeatedly discussed and examined.
