Amid the release of Border 2, actor Varun Dhawan, who plays a key role in the film, recently became the subject of memes and trolling on social media, with netizens focusing on his smile after the trailer and promotional clips were released. The discussion around his smile quickly went viral, making him a trending topic online.

Taking to his Instagram stories on Friday, Karan, who has been more of a mentor to Varun, came out in support of the actor, giving him a massive shout-out and addressing the online criticism.

Giving a pointed response to the trolls, Karan wrote in his post, “Has to be said…the reason why it’s called a virtual world! Real will always score and prove the noise on social media as defunct! You can troll an artist for his smile but then he laughs when the film releases to packed houses and he receives pure authentic audience love! So noisemakers and clickbait seeking content creators can do what they like…truth will always prevail!”

For context, the trolling started soon after the song Ghar Kab Aaoge was released. Social media users focused on a specific moment of Varun smiling and made it into a viral template. Varun handled the trend with humor and elegance during a live session. He even joked with singer Vishal Mishra about making a tutorial for his one-sided smile.

Border 2 came out today, and early reviews show that the war drama has received positive reactions. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film continues the legacy of the original from 1997.

A part of Moneycontrol’s review of the film reads, “The performances are mostly solid. Sunny Deol fits naturally into the role of a senior army officer, carrying authority and intensity without effort. His presence will please viewers who enjoy his familiar screen persona. Diljit Dosanjh brings lightness and warmth to Nirmaljit Singh, often easing the film’s heaviness with subtle humour."

The ensemble cast of Border 2 includes Sunny Deol, reprising his iconic role, alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh, and Anya Singh.
