Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor shared her opinions on social media criticism, stating that she approaches it from a practical perspective.
She called out the creators who make content on celebrities, frequently exploiting their names as "clickbait" and to increase engagement in an effort to gain views and visibility. She clarified that she stopped taking everything personally after realising this.
Janhvi stated that she doesn't let the paid positive-negative PR game that frequently occurs on social media consume her thoughts.
She also acknowledged that it can be painful, though, particularly if it turns into "bullying and harassment," as she has witnessed with her half-brother Arjun Kapoor.
In an interview with Grazia India, Janhvi Kapoor reflected on the criticism on social media, and said, “From what I understand about social media culture, is that everyone wants prominence, views and virality, so if they are making content about you, you’re just a scapegoat, they’re just using your name for clickbait, rage bait and whatever else it is to further their engagement."
She further added, “That’s the only purpose you serve, and once you look at it from that lens, you understand that what they’re saying about you has nothing to do with you. Then you start taking that less to your heart."
She also stated that she doesn't let the sponsored PR game affect her when discussing it on social media. In response to her brother Arjun Kapoor's online harassment and vitriol, she acknowledged that it can be painful to feel misinterpreted.
The actress elaborated, “Everyone’s doing what they have to, sab ghar chalane ki koshish kar rahe hai. You need to be transactional – nothing is that deep. It’s stupid to occupy your brain for more than five minutes with this. Of course, it hurts to feel misunderstood or when it turns into bullying and harassment, the way I’ve seen happen with my brother sometimes and there’s no excuse for that kind of behaviour. Negativity fuels negativity and you just have to remove yourself from it.”
