Actor Sonu Sood marked the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev by reflecting on how the Guru’s teachings continue to shape his life and choices. Speaking about the values he grew up with, Sonu said, “The teachings that we learnt from Guru Nanak were all about seva, selfless service, and empathy. Guru Nanak said, Ek Onkar, that God is one, which resonates deeply with me. These teachings stayed with us from our childhood. Our parents, our teachers, everyone reminded us of them, and we as kids were expected to follow the Guru's word. That was the norm in Punjab's villages and towns back in the day. And these teachings still guide my life.”
Recalling his childhood memories of Gurpurab, Sonu fondly remembered the spirit of community and devotion that filled the air. “I remember the langars, those were the best experiences. We used to go to the gurdwara, listen to the kirtans, and help serve food. Even the markets would be bustling with people distributing or partaking langars. It was beautiful to see people coming together, giving and sharing without expecting anything in return,” he said.
He shared how his family was deeply involved in these traditions. “There used to be a langar right in front of my shop in Moga, Punjab. My father would organise it, and passersby would stop to eat. Seeing the happiness on their faces was the yardstick which proved that we did good,” Sonu recalled with pride.

For him, Gurpurab holds significance that goes beyond religious rituals. “Amid the busyness of our lives, sacred days like today nudge us to pause and give back. I feel we have a lot to learn and teach our kids from teachings of our gurus. After all, they are most needed in modern times of chaos,” he added.
On the professional front, Sonu revealed he has been busy writing his next big project. “I’ve been writing my next film for the past seven or eight months. It’s an action film that we’ll start shooting in June,” he shared. Reflecting on his evolving journey as an artist, he said, “I’ve done many roles now, and I’m a bit choosy about what I should take up. It has to be something that gives me a kick as an actor, something new. And since I’m writing and directing too, it’s been a very exciting phase for me after Fateh.”
