Filming in Mumbai’s high-security Fort area for Dhurandhar 2 hit a snag when Mumbai Police took action against the film’s location manager for flying a drone without proper permission.

The case, registered on February 1 at the MRA Marg police station, has drawn attention to the strict rules surrounding aerial filming in one of the city’s most sensitive districts.

As per a report by India Today, officials revealed that a first information report (FIR) has been filed against Rinku Rajpal Valmiki under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for “willful disobedience to lawful orders of authority.”

Police documents suggest that the crew failed to secure the necessary approvals before using the drone to capture sequences for the film.

The Fort area is heavily monitored due to its proximity to important government offices and financial institutions.

Drone activity here is closely regulated, and any breach is taken very seriously by authorities. According to police, trouble arose on February 1, the third day of the shoot in the region, when actor Sanjay Dutt and the crew had gathered for filming. Officers noticed unauthorised drone movement and intervened immediately.

From January 30, the production team had been transforming parts of the historic Fort complex into a vibrant old street of Pakistan as part of the film’s set.

The large-scale changes to public spaces drew the attention of both local residents and security personnel, adding another layer of scrutiny to the shoot.

Once the drone activity was identified, officers issued a notice to Rinku Rajpal Valmiki. After completing the formalities, he was allowed to leave, though the FIR remains active as police continue to investigate the extent of the violation.

Authorities emphasised the need for strict compliance with rules governing drones and other recording devices in restricted areas, underlining that public safety is paramount.

No further arrests or detentions were reported, but the incident serves as a reminder to film crews that even high-profile projects must adhere to legal protocols.

Mumbai Police said they will continue to closely monitor filming in sensitive zones to ensure regulations are followed and public spaces remain secure.
