Months after devastating floods turned lives upside down across parts of Punjab, a small village in Amritsar is finally beginning to breathe easier.

In Pedewal village, several flood-affected families have moved into permanent homes, thanks to an initiative led by music artist, entrepreneur and philanthropist Badshah in partnership with Sikh Aid.

Over the weekend, Badshah personally visited the village along with his mother, choosing to meet every beneficiary family face to face.

Badshah personally handed the keys to their new homes, listened to their stories and made time to understand what they had gone through since the floods.

It was an intimate visit, reminding that this was not merely about reconstructing buildings but returning dignity and security to the people. He also promised them that his help would be there with them after this stage and emphasized the significance of sustainable recovery.

Speaking about the initiative, Badshah said, “Punjab is home. When people here lose everything, it becomes our shared responsibility. Rebuilding lives takes collective effort and responsibility. I stand by Punjab and urge others to join me in long-term rebuilding efforts.”

A Sikh Aid spokesperson shed light on the wider impact of the floods, explaining, “The floods destroyed homes, farmland, and livelihoods, leaving thousands of families in temporary shelters.

While immediate relief provided essential food and medical support, long-term housing remained a pressing challenge. Badshah’s initiative directly addresses this gap by delivering permanent homes to the most affected families.”

The gratitude from beneficiaries was deeply moving. One resident shared, “After the floods, we did not know how long we would live like this. Having a permanent home gives us the strength to start again.” Another added, “This is not charity. It gives us respect and security.”

The project was carefully executed, with Sikh Aid volunteers working alongside Badshah and local leaders to identify the most vulnerable families and oversee construction.
