Ranveer Singh–starrer Dhurandhar continues to dominate conversations across the film industry, with its success drawing praise from several quarters. The latest to weigh in is veteran actor Anupam Kher, who shared a heartfelt and strongly worded video message applauding director Aditya Dhar while also calling out those labelling the film as “propaganda.”
Taking to Instagram, Anupam Kher made it clear that his reaction came purely as a lover of cinema and not someone associated with the project. “I don’t have a role in this film. I am not connected to anything. But I don’t know why with the success of this film my heart is very peaceful,” he said in the video.
Clarifying his perspective further, Anupam Kher said he was not speaking as a film expert but as someone deeply invested in cinema. He noted that only a handful of films go on to become milestones in film history.
Addressing the criticism surrounding the film, Anupam Kher did not mince words while responding to the “propaganda” label being attached to Dhurandhar. He asserted that audience response is the biggest answer to such claims. “Don’t teach us what propaganda is. You are not going to decide what is a propaganda film. Don’t make us feel small,” he said firmly.
A major portion of his message was dedicated to praising Aditya Dhar’s fearless approach as a filmmaker. Applauding the director’s refusal to play safe, Anupam said, “As a filmmaker he has not followed any pattern or formula. No formula. Just conviction.” He also spoke about Aditya's personal background, referencing the struggles and pain his family has endured, and added that the success of Dhurandhar is a true reflection of courage rooted in belief.
Drawing from his own journey, Anupam reflected on his body of work and the impact it created. He said that films like Saaransh, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, A Wednesday and Khosla Ka Ghosla stood out because they offered viewers new ideas and perspectives, which is what made them special.
Anupam Kher went on to add that attempts to diminish art often backfire. According to him, when people try to belittle creative work, art returns stronger and louder. He remarked that Dhurandhar has “shut many minds and broken many thoughts,” underlining its cultural and cinematic impact.
Anupam called 2025 a landmark year for Aditya Dhar, and also praised his wife Yami Gautam, acknowledging her body of work and consistent performances.
As of yesterday, Dhurandhar had crossed 1000 crore worldwide.
