Angad Bedi reveals Neha Dhupia’s parents initially rejected him, said, "They told me you don’t even have a single rupee"

Bollywood couple Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi tied the knot in 2018 after dating each other secretly for some time. The couple had never publicly spoken about their relationship before their wedding, which came as a surprise to many fans and followers.

Recently, Angad Bedi opened up about their love story, sharing insights into how he was once rejected by Neha’s parents and how filmmaker Karan Johar later played a pivotal role in reuniting them.

During a conversation with Maniesh Paul on his podcast, Angad revealed that he first noticed Neha at a gym, where she was shooting cycling sequences.

He acknowledged that he kept going back to the gym for three days in a row just to see her because he was impressed by her running style and level of fitness. He eventually stopped going there, though, for unclear reasons.

Later, Angad was taken to a party in Mumbai with Neha by cricketer Yuvraj Singh, whom he regards as a close friend and father figure. Neha was invited to join the group at Angad's house after the bar closed. Angad disclosed that, despite their brief conversation, this was the first time he had ever spoken to her.

Their professional paths crossed soon after, as they began working together on films such as Ungli. Angad also shared that Neha later called him for a role in another film, which he accepted primarily as an opportunity to spend time with her. During the shoot, Angad confessed his feelings and asked Neha to marry him.

Following this, Angad returned to Delhi and decided to formally ask Neha’s parents for her hand in marriage. However, his proposal was initially rejected. Reflecting on the moment, he said, “I told her, ‘I am nobody, and I have no money, but if you marry me, I will become something.’ She didn’t say anything and steered the conversation in another direction. After that film, I went home and spoke to her parents about wanting to marry their daughter. They said, ‘You are a very nice guy, but you don’t even have a single rupee in your pocket and you want to marry our daughter?’ I told them that this was my intention, and they said, ‘We’ll see.’”

Even though their paths eventually diverged, Angad and Neha remained close friends after this. When Neha invited Angad to a Diwali celebration while he was filming Soorma in Punjab, destiny stepped in. Karan Johar was crucial in reuniting the couple at this point.

Neha had been attempting to set him up with someone else, according to Angad, but he told her not to waste his time because his diary was already quite full. He said that Karan Johar was there and encouraged them, stating that they were destined to be together.

He added that life is now on a good track, saying, “Things started changing after that, and everything happened very quickly — the engagement and the wedding. But life is on a good track.”

On the work front, Neha Dhupia was most recently seen in the web series Single Papa, which also stars Kunal Kemmu, Prajakta Koli, Ayesha Raza, and Manoj Pahwa in key roles.
