Actor Akshaye Khanna has become one of the most talked‑about performers of the year following the runaway success of the spy action thriller Dhurandhar. While fans and industry peers continue to shower praise on his portrayal of Rehman Dakait, the veteran star himself has kept a notably low profile until now.
Despite widespread acclaim and viral attention on social media, Akshaye Khanna’s response to all the love has been refreshingly simple.
Dhurandhar’s casting director Mukesh Chhabra revealed that when asked how he felt about the film’s success, Khanna’s reaction was just, “Haan, mazaa aaya” — loosely translating to “Yes, I enjoyed it.” Chhabra spoke about Akshaye’s grounded approach to his craft, emphasizing that he stays focused on his work rather than the buzz.
In an interview with Miss Malini, Mukesh showered Akshaye with praise, saying he had truly worked his magic with his performance.
Mukesh revealed that he spoke to Akshaye after the film’s success and shared, “This morning, I was talking to him, and he was very unbothered by it. He just said, ‘Haan, mazza aaya.’ He knows how much love he puts into his work. When I was on set a couple of times, I realised his process, he stays in his own space, handles his aura very carefully, reads his scenes multiple times and is fully prepared. I think that magic then shows in his work.”
In an exclusive conversation Moneycontrol, Mukesh Chhabra, opened up about how he get Akshaye onboard as Rehman Dakait. To which he said, "Poore Hindustan ke actors ek taraf, and then there is Akshaye Khanna."
Mukesh Chhabra opened up about the film’s casting journey and the thought behind assembling its ensemble.
Mukesh, further added that he had earlier worked with Akshaye in Mom, praised him and said, "He (Akshaye) has his own sur, the way he thinks, the way he comes up with ideas. If you see every single expression of his, it is not borrowed and copied. He will always come up with his own idea, his own style, his own swag. He’s not a well-built guy, and he’s not tall, but his personality is everything. We wanted Rehman Dacait to look normal, but his aura should be such that whosoever looks at him should be scared.”
Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, Khanna’s intense and nuanced performance quickly became a topic of conversation, with many viewers claiming his portrayal even overshadowed that of the protagonist. His appearance in the song Fa9la, especially his swagger‑filled moves, went viral, contributing further to the chatter online.
Despite this massive wave of appreciation, Akshaye has chosen to retreat from public view. According to reports, he is spending quality time at his Alibaug home, where he recently performed a Vastu Shanti havan, a private ritual, keeping his off‑screen life peaceful amid the film’s success.
Dhurandhar continues its strong box office run, pushing past major benchmarks and securing its place among the top‑grossing Indian films of the year, with Khanna’s performance playing a key role in that achievement.
