Actor and self-proclaimed film critic Kamaal R. Khan (KRK) has been detained by Mumbai Police in connection with a suspicious firing incident that struck a residential building in the Oshiwara area of Andheri earlier this month.
The incident occurred on January 18, when four shots were reportedly fired and later the police recovered bullets from the façade and inside the homes of residents on the second and fourth floors of a multi-storey building in Nalanda Society. No injuries have been reported.
After extensive investigation, including CCTV reviews and trajectory analysis, police traced the origin of the shots to the vicinity of KRK’s residence near the society. Officers reconstructed the scene to determine the direction from which the bullets were fired, leading them to suspect the actor’s home.
Following days of inquiry, KRK was brought in for questioning late on Friday night. During the interrogation, he allegedly admitted to firing the shots and told police that he had discharged his licensed firearm, claiming he was merely testing the weapon’s functionality and had no intention to harm anyone. He said he fired towards a nearby mangrove area, thinking the bullets would be lost there, but wind conditions caused them to travel further and hit the residential building.
The police have since seized the weapon and recovered shell casings as part of the ongoing investigation. Forensic teams and the Crime Branch are examining the evidence, including the bullets and any additional material from the scene.
