Bollywood celebrates iftaar in a big way and many stars host parties. This year, the iftaar parties have been ushered in by Politician and former MLA, Baba Siddique and his son Zeeshan Siddique. They hosted their annual Iftar party, attended by celebrities from both Bollywood and TV. It was a star-studded evening with Shilpa Shetty, Salman Khan, Preity Zinta, Vijay Varma, Gauhar Khan, Shehnaaz Gill and Emraan Hashmi among others.
Iftaar or the meal eaten when breaking of the fast or roza at sunset, is a daily ritual in the holy month of Ramzan. This occasion is a community event, where several people get together and break their fast and others join in, too.
While iftaar is usually started by eating a date and drinking a glass of water, there is an array of food that people partake of. It has become an occasion for gourmands to relish delicacies as these are available during Ramzan only.
Apart from preparing food at home, many people order it from restaurants. ITC Maratha, Mumbai has curated a special Ruhaniyat menu, offering kebabs to nihari to yakhni pulao and haleem, which can be delivered at home, as part of their Gourmet Couch.
Of course, if in Mumbai, one can head to Mohammed Ali Road and indulge with a plethora of kebabs, baida roti, paya, and even sweets like malpua, jalebis and rabri, from stalls and shops, dotting the area, which is a haven for foodies.
In Delhi, it has got to be the by lanes near Jama masjid where people can relish authentic iftaar delicacies during Ramzan. Make a beeline for Paradise or Shah Ghouse in Hyderabad, for the best Iftaar treats and if you’re especially seeking biryanis, 10 Biryanis is your best bet. Feast on kebabs and Murgh Changezi on Zakaria street in Kolkata.
