Actor-singer and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari was the victim of a burglary at his Mumbai residence, where cash worth Rs 5.40 lakh was stolen. The incident took place at Manoj Tiwari’s flat in Sundarban Apartments, located in the Shastri Nagar area of Andheri West. Police have arrested a former employee in connection with the theft.

According to officials, the case came to light after a complaint was lodged at Amboli Police Station by Manoj Tiwari’s manager, Pramod Jogendra Pandey. Based on the complaint, a case was registered and investigations led to the arrest of Surendra Kumar Dinanath Sharma, a former employee who had been dismissed from service nearly two years ago.

Police said Pandey has been associated with Manoj Tiwari for over 20 years and looks after the actor-politician’s household matters.

In his complaint, Pandey stated that a total of Rs 5.40 lakh kept in one of the rooms had gone missing. Notably, Rs 4.40 lakh from this amount had reportedly disappeared from a cupboard as early as June 2025. At the time, however, the culprit could not be identified, and the matter remained unresolved.

Accused used duplicate keys

To crack the case, CCTV cameras were installed inside the residence in December 2025.

According to the police, footage recorded around 9 pm on January 15, 2026, proved to be the turning point. The visuals allegedly showed the former employee entering the flat and stealing cash.

Investigators revealed that Sharma had used duplicate keys to gain access to the house, including the main door, bedroom, and cupboard. On the night captured on camera, he allegedly stole around Rs 1 lakh. Scrutiny of the footage helped police identify the accused, after which he was taken into custody.

Investigation underway

Following his arrest, Sharma reportedly confessed to the theft during questioning. The Amboli police immediately seized the CCTV footage and other relevant evidence. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused was involved in the earlier theft reported in June 2025 and to recover the remaining stolen cash.

Police have assured that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined, including how the duplicate keys were made and whether anyone else was involved in the burglary.
