Arijit Singh is reportedly preparing to take a significant new step in his creative journey by making his directorial debut, just days after announcing that he is stepping away from playback singing in Bollywood.

While the singer has clarified that he will continue to create independent music under his own label, fresh reports suggest that filmmaking may now be his primary focus.

According to sources quoted by T2 Online, the 38-year-old musician is set to direct a feature film that will also mark the acting debut of Shora Siddiqui, daughter of acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Shora, who is 15 years old, is currently pursuing a course in acting in London. The project is said to be untitled at the moment.

Arijit’s announcement about stepping back from playback singing sent ripples across the film and music industries, with fans and insiders alike speculating about what prompted the decision. While the singer did not explicitly mention filmmaking while making his announcement, industry whispers suggest that his growing involvement in this directorial project required a significant personal and creative commitment.

Sources have described the film as a pan-India jungle-based story. It is reportedly co-written by Arijit and his wife Koyel, who has collaborated with him closely on the project. A source cited in the report claimed that Arijit has been deeply passionate about the film for a long time and that balancing multiple playback commitments would have made it difficult for him to do justice to the project.

The film is said to be produced by Mahaveer Jain Films, Alkyduti Films, and God Bless Entertainment. While some reports claim that shooting may have already begun, there has been no official confirmation from the singer or the production team so far.

Arijit Singh made his Bollywood debut as a composer with the 2021 film Pagglait, which was praised for its understated and emotionally rich soundtrack. His reported transition from music to direction places him in a lineage of artists who have successfully crossed creative boundaries, with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj often cited as a prominent example of a musician-turned-director.

As of now, Arijit has not made any public statement confirming the directorial debut. Until an official announcement is made, details surrounding the film remain speculative. However, if the reports are true, the project could mark a bold new chapter for one of India’s most influential musical voices.
