Yash Raj Films (YRF) has made a groundbreaking announcement by revealing the title of its latest addition to the successful spy universe franchise. Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh as super agents, Alpha aims to challenge societal norms and misconceptions about leadership and strength, traditionally perceived as male attributes.

Yash Raj Films (YRF) has made a groundbreaking announcement by revealing the title of its latest addition to the successful spy universe franchise. The film, titled Alpha marks a significant shift in the series as it is the first female-fronted installment. Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh as super agents, Alpha aims to challenge societal norms and misconceptions about leadership and strength, traditionally perceived as male attributes.


“This is a clear take by YRF to highlight a societal misinterpretation that only men can be Alphas,” stated the studio in a formal announcement. The film is directed by Shiv Rawail, who previously made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed Netflix series The Railway Men in 2023.

The Yash Raj Films spy universe has been a dominant force in Bollywood’s action genre. Created by producer and YRF chair Aditya Chopra, the franchise began with the Tiger series, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. The Tiger franchise saw immense success with films like “Ek Tha Tiger” (2012) and “Tiger Zinda Hai” (2017). The universe expanded with “War” (2019), featuring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, and further solidified its position with “Pathaan” (2023), starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham.

Pathaan and Tiger 3 were among the biggest hits of 2023, establishing the spy universe as a powerhouse in Indian cinema. The upcoming lineup includes highly anticipated films such as “War 2” with Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr., “Pathaan 2,” and “Tiger vs Pathaan.”

Alia Bhatt’s Rising Stardom

Alia Bhatt, who leads Alpha has established herself as one of Bollywood’s leading actors since her debut in “Student of the Year” (2012). Known for her versatility, Bhatt has delivered critically acclaimed performances in films such as “Highway” (2014), “Raazi” (2018), and “Gangubai Kathiawadi” (2022). Her portrayal of Gangubai earned her the Best Actress award at India’s National Film Awards.

Recently, Bhatt expanded her horizons by making her Hollywood debut with Netflix’s Heart of Stone (2023), showcasing her talent on an international platform. Her involvement in “Alpha” adds another feather to her cap, highlighting her growing influence in the film industry.

Sharvari Wagh: A Rising Talent

Sharvari Wagh, co-starring in Alpha is a rising talent in Bollywood. She made her debut with the Prime Video series “The Forgotten Army” (2020) and later appeared in her first film, “Bunty Aur Babli 2” (2021). Wagh’s career gained momentum with the theatrical hit “Munjya” (2024) and the global success of Netflix’s “Maharaj” (2024).

Wagh’s inclusion in Alpha signifies her rising prominence in the industry and her potential to become one of Bollywood’s leading stars. Her pairing with Alia Bhatt promises a dynamic on-screen presence that is expected to captivate audiences.

A Shift in Narrative

Alpha is a bold move by YRF to redefine the spy genre by featuring strong female protagonists. The film aims to challenge traditional gender roles and inspire a new generation of viewers. By focusing on female-led narratives, YRF continues to push the boundaries of storytelling in Indian cinema.
