More than 24 years after its release, Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh’s 2001 classic Lagaan continues to receive global recognition. In a special tribute, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honoured the film’s lasting impact on world cinema.

Taking to the official Instagram page, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences shared a video of the iconic song Radha Kaise Na Jale, on May 31 Saturday. The post was accompanied by a heartfelt note honouring the film’s enduring impact.

The caption read, “Love, longing and a little bit of fire in her eyes. Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh performing Radha Kaise Na Jale (vocals by Asha Bhosale and Udit Narayan) from Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan. The film was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film (India) at the 74th Oscars."

Several fans rushed to the comment section as the post sent a wave of nostalgia. One fan wrote, "Legendary movie and musical score." Another comment read, "Unforgettably nostalgic for us millennials." A user also wrote, "The film that changed the course of Indian Cinema thanks @theacademy for recognising The Great Indian Cinema."

Lagaan stands as a landmark in Indian cinema, having secured an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film—a rare feat. Set in colonial India during the late 1800s, the film tells the inspiring tale of a village man who rallies his community to take on British officers in a high-stakes cricket match to escape oppressive taxes.
