New director and Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan has once again found himself in the headlines after a Bengaluru-based lawyer filed a police complaint seeking the registration of an FIR against him, alleging that he made an obscene gesture during a public appearance.

According to reports, the incident occurred on November 28 at a promotional event for his brand D’yavol, held at a city pub.

Advocate Owaiz Hussain S, a resident of Sankey Road, submitted his complaint to the DG&IGP, the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, the DCP (Central Division), the Inspector of Cubbon Park Police Station, and the Karnataka State Women’s Commission.

Aryan was at the event with Kannada actor Zaid Khan, son of Karnataka minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, and actor Dhanya Ramkumar.

When he stepped onto the restaurant’s balcony to greet the media and fans, he flashed his middle finger -  seemingly in a moment of youthful exuberance before quickly waving and smiling.

The gesture was captured on video, which soon went viral, drawing widespread criticism online.

Watch the video here:

The complainant alleged that several women were present at the time and claimed the act “insulted their modesty,” invoking provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. He further accused Aryan of causing “public discomfort, embarrassment and emotional distress,” adding that the incident portrayed Bengaluru poorly as a “safe and dignified public environment.”

Online reactions were sharply divided. Many social media users condemned Aryan’s gesture, calling it indecent. One user wrote, “Ofcourse he misbehaved… Are you really sure about asking police to file an FIR for showing middle finger?” Another commented, “Father's reputation is going down because of this kid!”

Others defended Aryan, arguing that the incident was blown out of proportion. “If an ordinary citizen had done the same, it wouldn’t have been in the news,” one user said. Another wrote, “Doesn’t look like he’s out to piss anyone off. Almost looks like having fun with someone waving at them and jokingly sticking fingers at them. People get offended so easily in India.” Another added, “The young man is fond of showing his love through hand signals. Where's the issue in that?”

Some pointed out that the event was a private inauguration of a pub and that no formal guests had been invited. “I don’t think this is an issue to discuss and waste time,” a user shared.

To support his complaint, Advocate Hussain referenced a similar case from February 2025, when Chamarajpet police arrested a man, Harsha H B, for allegedly showing the middle finger to a woman near Gopalan Mall. Based on the woman’s video complaint, an FIR was filed for obscene gestures and insulting a woman’s modesty. The lawyer stated that courts have previously held that showing the middle finger toward a woman constitutes an obscene gesture intended to insult.

The controversy continues to spark intense debate online, as opinions remain divided over whether Aryan’s gesture warrants police action or has been unnecessarily magnified due to his celebrity status.
