While most newcomers in Bollywood tend to indulge in the glamorous trappings that come with fame, Junaid Khan, son of superstar Aamir Khan, is forging a very different path. Despite having already completed two films and currently working on a third, Junaid continues to live a humble, unassuming life. He doesn't own a car, avoids unnecessary luxuries, and chooses practicality over prestige—something that has both surprised and impressed many.
In a recent interview with The New Indian, Aamir Khan spoke candidly about his son's minimalist lifestyle. “You’d be shocked to know that Junaid hasn’t bought a car ever. He’s done two movies. He uses public transport. I’m tired of telling him to get a car; he can take one of mine, I have cars. He says, ‘No, dad, I don’t need a car, I just book an OLA’,” Aamir revealed. This is not out of necessity but a conscious lifestyle choice that Junaid continues to stick to, much to his father's bewilderment.
One particularly telling anecdote Aamir shared involved Junaid traveling from Kerala to Bengaluru.
Rather than flying, which would have been the obvious and convenient choice, Junaid took a state-run overnight bus. “He’s an unusual kind of person,” Aamir remarked, admiring the simplicity with which his son operates. This behaviour, according to Aamir, stems from the values instilled in him through his upbringing, shared by both of Junaid’s mothers, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao. “We’ve never placed much importance on material wealth, and I think that shows in how our children have grown up,” Aamir noted.
Junaid’s simplicity is not just anecdotal—it plays out in his daily life in Mumbai as well. The young actor is frequently seen traveling by auto-rickshaw, an unusual sight for someone from a star family. Once, when arriving at Yash Raj Studios, he had trouble getting in because the security guards didn’t believe he was part of the film production. His Maharaj co-star Jaideep Ahlawat later confirmed the incident, underscoring just how grounded Junaid remains despite his background.
But Junaid's humility is matched by his emotional maturity and kindness. Aamir proudly shared a moment from the pandemic that deeply moved him. “All three of my children are very sensitive. During the pandemic, both Reena’s parents caught the virus together, and Junaid immediately offered to move in with them. For two weeks, he took care of them alone, and made sure that they were okay, because even the help wasn’t around then. It just shows what a sensitive person he is. I felt very proud.”
In response to all the attention his low-key lifestyle is receiving, Junaid responded in typical fashion during an interview with Connect Cine: “Papa makes a big deal out of small things. I just travel the most efficient way of traveling. I often take rickshaws in Mumbai because it is easier to get around and not worry about parking.”
