Stalin (DMK) is expected to play a significant role, although he typically focuses on state politics. Other notable figures include Edappadi K. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its allies achieved a significant victory in Tamil Nadu. The DMK-led alliance won 38 out of the 39 seats, with the DMK itself securing 23 seats. The Indian National Congress (INC), an ally of the DMK, won 8 seats. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) managed to win only 1 seat, reflecting a challenging electoral landscape for the AIADMK at the time.
During the 2019 elections, DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance registered a landslide victory by winning 38 of the 39 seats, giving the largest party of the nation only one seat. Congress and DMK have been in an alliance since 2004, except between March 2013 and February 2016, and have fought every election sans the 2014 Lok Sabha polls together. The alliance has won in 2004, 2006, 2009, 2019, and 2021, while losing in 2011 and 2016 Assembly Polls. The ruling DMK, now part of the INDIA bloc, had swept the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, winning 38 of the 39 seats, and has kept its alliance intact. It is taking on the BJP, raising issues of usurping rights of states, denying special relief packages to floods-ravaged Chennai and Tuticorin, price rise, and financial discrimination towards southern states. In 2014 general election, AIADMK led by then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, won 37 seats, BJP won 1 seat and the Pattali Makkal Katchi led by S Ramadoss won 1 seat. The primary opposition party in the state - DMK, led by then party patriach M Karunanidhi did not win a single seat.
