When and where to watch Lok Sabha and Assembly Election results?

After paper ballots, votes recorded in the EVMs are counted. While trends should begin emerging by noon, a clearer picture is expected to be available in the late afternoon.

In a marathon seven-phase exercise to elect the 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha, India began voting on April 19. The final phase of polling  took place from June1.

The country reported an overall 62 per cent voter turnout in the Lok Sabha election’s final phase .With the BJP eyeing its third term in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extensively campaigned for his party across the length and breadth of the country.

2024 India general election results: Date and time

Counting will begin at 8 am on June 4. All the 543 Lok Sabha seats witnessed polling with 8,360 candidates in fray.

How will the votes be counted?

It will begin with the counting of postal ballots that only select groups can use, including people with disabilities, or those involved in essential services including security forces and some government officials.

After paper ballots, votes recorded in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) are counted. While trends should begin emerging by noon, a clearer picture is expected to be available in the late afternoon. The final official result will be declared by the Election Commission either late at night or on June 5 morning.

Results are announced for each constituency as soon as counting is completed. India follows the first-past-the-post system. A candidate with the highest number of votes wins.

After the Election Commission announces the results for all 543 seats, the president invites the leader of the party, or an alliance, which has more than half the seats to form the government.

The party or coalition with 272 or more seats then chooses a prime minister to lead the government.

When will the assembly polls results of Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh be declared?

The Assembly polls results of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh will be declared on June 2. Counting for Odisha and Andhra Pradesh assembly polls will be held on June 4 along with Lok Sabha elections.
