Kanhaiya Kumar, the INDIA bloc's candidate for North East Delhi, alleged on May 18 that the constituency's sitting MP, Manoj Tiwari, was behind an attack on him. This accusation follows an incident the day before, where Kumar was reportedly assaulted and targeted with ink in the New Usmanpur area.
Addressing a press conference, Kanhaiya Kumar claimed that Tiwari orchestrated the attack as he feared losing the support of the constituency's residents.
Kanhaiya Kumar accused Manoj Tiwari of resorting to false rumors and manipulated videos to undermine his campaign. He further criticized Tiwari for failing to showcase substantial achievements during his tenure as the MP. "Instead of showing his work, ever since I was nominated as the candidate for northeast Delhi, the MP (Tiwari) is continuously lying, circulating doctored videos, and trying to instigate the common people," Kanhaiya Kumar said.
"I feel that somewhere he has started to believe that perhaps the people of the constituency are not accepting him. That is why instead of answering the questions we are raising on behalf of the people of North East Delhi, he is carrying out such attacks," Kanhaiya Kumar alleged.
Despite the attack, Kanhaiya Kumar assured Congress workers and his supporters of his well-being, emphasizing the importance of focusing on election issues.
"Manoj Tiwari is the richest candidate and I am the poorest. We do not have money, but we have courage," he added. Urging people to cast votes in the Lok Sabha polls, the INDIA bloc candidate said, "I request everyone that this is their last weapon. They will mislead the common people so that people's attention is diverted from the poll issues. But you shouldn't divert your attention."
Polling in New Delhi will take place on May 25 in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections.
