In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, The JDU had won four more seats in the 2019 elections.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] contested 16 seats and emerged victorious in 12. It is in coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP] in the state.

This election was crucial for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JDU as Kumar was initially instrumental in proposing the concept of the INDIA bloc, aiming to unite anti-BJP parties nationwide. Despite initial discussions about his potential candidacy for the prime ministerial role, Nitish Kumar ultimately withdrew from the INDIA bloc in January due to challenges in alliance coordination.

He re-joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance prior to the Lok Sabha election results.

Among the seats won by JDU are Bhagalpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Nalanda, and Munger, while it faced defeat in Katihar, Purnia, and Jahanabad.

Sitting JDU MP Kaushalendra Kumar won his Nalanda seat for the third time in a row, this time defeating Sandeep Saurabh of the CPI (ML) by 1.69 lakh votes. Meanwhile, JDU's Ashok Kumar Saran won his second term as MP from Gopalganj.
