When the Haryana Board Class 12 results were declared earlier this week, most students across the country were checking marks and calculating college cut-offs. But for 59 students from 18 government schools in Haryana, the results brought only silence and shock—not a single one of them passed.

The schools in question are scattered across Haryana—six in Nuh, four in Faridabad, and one each in Gurgaon, Hisar, Jhajjar, Karnal, Palwal, Rohtak, Sonipat, and Yamunanagar. Their collective failure has n0t just raised eyebrows—it’s rattled the entire narrative around the state’s 85.7% overall pass percentage.

But the issue runs deeper than these 18 institutions. These schools are just the tip of the iceberg in a larger crisis of underperformance. A total of 100 government schools across Haryana have reported dismal results, with 82 schools clocking pass percentages below 35%. Education officials have now referred these schools to the state directorate and the Ministry of Education for urgent corrective action.

The epicentre of this education emergency is Nuh, a district already grappling with development challenges. Shockingly, 62 of the 100 worst-performing schools are located here. Faridabad, another urban hub, follows with 12 schools in the bottom list. The data paints a bleak picture: Nuh is not just lagging—it’s collapsing under the weight of systemic neglect and chronic underperformance.

One school, Hindu Girls Senior Secondary School in Yamunanagar, saw 23 students appear for the Class 12 boards. None made it through.

Educationists say the root causes range from lack of quality teachers and infrastructure to absenteeism, poor accountability, and socio-economic hardships.

The big question now is: Can Haryana afford to ignore these red flags any longer? Or will this year’s results finally spark the reform that’s long overdue in the state’s public education system?

For the students who walked into exam halls hoping to build a better future, the system seems to have failed them long before they picked up their pens.
