World Reputation Rankings 2025

For the 14th year in a row, Harvard University has secured the top spot in the Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings, solidifying its position as the most prestigious institution globally. The rankings, which serve as a barometer of academic reputation, highlight the universities that academics worldwide consider leaders in teaching and research. These institutions are often regarded as the best places to work, study, and conduct groundbreaking research.

This year's rankings reveal a familiar dominance by US institutions, with Harvard leading the pack. Close behind, in a tie for second place, are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Oxford. Notably, Oxford's rise to joint-second marks its highest reputation ranking in a decade, signaling that its global prestige is beginning to align with its consistent performance in the overall THE World University Rankings, where it has claimed the top spot for the past nine years.

The top 10 also features Stanford University, which shares fourth place with the University of Cambridge. Ivy League institutions Princeton University and Yale University hold the seventh and ninth positions, respectively. Meanwhile, Tsinghua University in China and The University of Tokyo in Japan continue to represent Asia’s growing influence in global higher education, securing eighth and tenth places.

THE World Reputation Rankings are based on the opinions of thousands of academics worldwide, making them a valuable indicator of institutional prestige and excellence. This year's results underscore the enduring dominance of US and UK universities, while also highlighting the rising reputations of leading Asian institutions.
