Many believe that becoming an IAS officer requires years of dedicated, full-time study at a coaching institute. But Shweta Bharti's story rewrites that script. She cleared the UPSC Civil Services Exam while holding down a demanding job, proving that with discipline and smart planning, no hurdle is too high.
Hailing from Rajgir Bazaar in Bihar's Nalanda district, Shweta nurtured the dream of civil service from her school days. Her father’s emphasis on education laid a strong foundation. After completing her B.Tech, she did what many graduates do: she entered the corporate world, joining the IT giant Wipro.
Yet, the aspiration to serve the public never left her. Unlike those who can quit everything to prepare, Shweta had family responsibilities. Leaving her job wasn’t an option. So, she chose a tougher path: to prepare for India’s toughest exam alongside her full-time corporate career.
Shweta's day was split into two demanding roles. For nine hours, she was a professional at Wipro. The nights and early mornings were reserved for her UPSC preparation. Realizing that distractions would cost her precious time, she made intentional sacrifices. She let go of her smartphone, stayed off social media, and limited her social outings. Her focus was razor-sharp.
Before taking on the UPSC, Shweta built her confidence and experience through state exams. She cleared the 64th and 65th BPSC examinations. In the 65th BPSC, she secured the 65th rank and served as a District Programme Officer in West Champaran. This role wasn't her final goal, but a vital step that gave her firsthand insight into public administration.
In 2021, her structured efforts and unwavering discipline paid off. In her second attempt at the UPSC CSE, Shweta achieved an All India Rank of 356. Her marks told the story of her comprehensive preparation: 774 in the written exams and 168 in the interview, totaling 942 marks.
Shweta’s journey sends a powerful message to lakhs of aspirants, especially those who are working or cannot access coaching. She breaks the myth that success requires studying 12-14 hours daily.
Her story proves that coaching is helpful, but not mandatory. What truly matters is a learner’s determination and a well-planned approach. Today, IAS officer Shweta Bharti is the Assistant Collector in Bhagalpur, Bihar. She is now part of the machinery she worked so hard to join, directly contributing to governance and public welfare.
Shweta Bharti’s journey from a Wipro desk to the district administration office is not just about passing an exam. It’s a lesson in resilience, exceptional time management, and self-belief. It shows that your current circumstances don’t define your potential. For every working professional or aspirant juggling responsibilities, her life stands as a powerful testament: with the right plan and perseverance, you can build your own path to success.
