A dramatic video showing a man precariously crossing a heavily flooded river on a traditional hanging bridge in Arunachal Pradesh’s remote Anjaw district has gone viral, drawing attention to the extreme conditions faced by residents in the region during the monsoon.

The footage, reportedly filmed near the tri-junction of the India-China-Myanmar border, captures the man gingerly making his way across the battered remains of the bridge as floodwaters rage beneath. The clip has sparked widespread concern, highlighting the urgent need for better infrastructure in one of India’s most isolated and rain-lashed areas.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh, shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), urging people to be cautious. “Arunachal Pradesh receives heaviest Monsoon rains in the world. Got this video of a man crossing traditional hanging bridge in Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh near tri-junction of India, China & Myanmar border. Please remain careful & safe. Govt will provide necessary support,” he posted.
The region has been reeling under relentless monsoon rains since May 30, with torrential downpours triggering numerous landslides and severely affecting connectivity. So far, nine people have lost their lives due to rain-related incidents, including multiple landslides across the hilly terrain.
As per PTI, Chief Minister Pema Khandu extended his condolences to the bereaved families and confirmed that ex gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh would be provided to the kin of each of the deceased. “My heart goes out to the departed souls. Our prayers are with them. Let’s maintain extreme caution and remain vigilant to avoid further loss of lives,” he was quoted by PTI.
The state administration has issued advisories urging residents to avoid travelling, especially at night, and to steer clear of rivers and other water bodies while the heavy rainfall continues. Authorities remain on high alert, given the volatile weather conditions and fragile landscape of the state.
While the identity of the man in the video remains unknown and it is still unclear whether he was rescued, the incident has amplified ongoing concerns about the lack of all-weather roads and safe connectivity in far-flung border districts.
The clip has triggered a flurry of reactions on social media, with many users demanding quicker intervention from the central and state governments to prevent such life-threatening situations. The state, often cut off during the monsoon months, continues to depend heavily on fragile, decades-old infrastructure that struggles to withstand nature’s fury.
