Volkswagen today launched the Tayron R-Line in India, priced at Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). The model, which opened for pre-bookings earlier this month, marks the brand's entry into the country's premium 7-seater SUV segment.
Pre-bookings for the SUV had commenced for a token amount of Rs 51,000. A completely knocked-down (CKD) model is being manufactured at the company's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant.
The Tayron R-Line comes with 23 distinct features, many of which are segment-best and first, according to the company. The SUV is also positioned as technologically advanced with 14 Level-2 ADAS features.
The design of the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line tilts more towards sleek than butch. It is not as muscular as rivals like the Toyota Fortuner or MG Majestor. However, it looks quite stylish.
The segment-first HD Matrix headlamps with IQ lights and R-Line elements on the bumper and front door enhance the style quotient of the SUV. Even the connected taillamps at the rear look very sleek. The illuminated VW logo at the front and rear adds to the overall contemporary feel of the SUV, which drives on 19-inch Coventry alloys.
There are seven colour options: Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Ultraviolet Metallic, Cipressino-Green Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic and Oryx White Mother-of-Pearl Effect.
The Tayron R-Line has a spacious cabin with comfortable seats. While there is ample legroom and headroom for the occupants in the first two rows, the third row is, at the most, best for individuals of up to 5'5" height. The material quality feels premium, and you will not be disappointed by the ergonomics of the cabin.
Talking about features, you get a massive 15-inch touchscreen infotainment, which supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. However, you will be impressed most by the front seats, which have 12-way power memory function, ventilation, massage and lumbar support. There is a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel.
You also get a panoramic sunroof, augmented-reality head-up display, three-zone Climatronic AC, Harmon Kardon sound system, wireless charging, 30 shades of ambient lighting with illuminated R insert on dashboard and gesture-controlled tailgate.
While Volkswagen cars are mostly known to be quite safe, the company is providing safety features like nine airbags, electronic stabilisation control, hill ascent control and hill descent control in the Tayron R-Line.
Powering the SUV is a 2.0-litre TSI EA888 EVO4 engine, which produces 204PS and 320Nm. The motor comes mated to a 7-speed DSG, which sends power to all four wheels (4MOTION). The Tayron R-Line can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 224kmph.
