Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast is preparing a major expansion of its India operations, with plans to enter ride-hailing services, electric two-wheelers, buses and EV charging infrastructure in the second half of 2026, a senior company executive said.
The company, which showcased its electric cars in India in 2025 and began commercial sales in the latter half of the year, is now moving into the next phase of growth alongside its parent, Vin Group.
“We have invested $500 million for our car project and another $500 million we are investing in the two-wheeler and bus project, both of which will come in the second half,” VinFast India CEO Tapan Kumar Ghosh told Moneycontrol.
As part of its broader mobility push, VinFast group company Green and Smart Mobility (GSM) will launch an electric vehicle ride-hailing service in India. GSM operates exclusively with VinFast cars and scooters and will take on incumbents Ola and Uber.
“The ride-hailing business will be independent from VinFast India operations. It will be buying the cars from us and operate them as fleet,” Ghosh said.
VinFast also plans to launch three new electric vehicle models this year, adding to its existing VF6 and VF7 lineup. One of the upcoming models will be a seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) aimed primarily at the taxi and fleet segment. At least one of the remaining models will be a compact SUV positioned against rivals such as the Tata Nexon EV.
“There is a huge segment below the VF6 and we have to be present there,” Ghosh said. Currently, the VF6 is VinFast’s entry-level offering in India. It is priced at Rs 17.29 lakh.
VinFast sold 826 cars in India in 2025 after starting sales in September but the company has not disclosed its sales targets for 2026. Its completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly plant in Tamil Nadu has an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles, which can be scaled up to 150,000 units. The facility assembles imported kits from Vietnam, with about 10 percent localisation at present.
In the medium to long term, VinFast aims to significantly increase localisation levels to reduce exposure to uncertainties around battery and component supply. The company is also expanding its retail footprint, planning to increase dealerships from 35 in 2025 to 70 in 2026. Sales and dealership networks for two-wheelers and buses will operate separately from the passenger car business.
