  • Skoda Kylaq crosses 50,000 units production at Chakan plant in Pune.
  • Kylaq accounted for 62% of Skoda India's record sales in CY2025.
  • The compact SUV offers 25+ safety features and competitive pricing.

The Skoda Kylaq has crossed the production milestone of 50,000 units. The compact SUV is manufactured at Skoda Auto Volkswagen India's Chakan facility in Pune and has emerged as a central pillar to Skoda's India volume strategy.

The Kylaq operates in the compact SUV segment, which accounts for roughly 25% of India's total passenger vehicle (PV) volumes and serves as a primary growth engine for several automakers.

The model competes with high-volume rivals, including the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra XUV 3X0 and Kia Sonet. It is positioned as the most affordable Skoda on sale in India, with prices ranging from Rs 7,59,000 to Rs 13,65,000 (ex-showroom).

The Kylaq is built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which underpins relatively bigger Skoda models such as the Kushaq and the Slavia. Production of the Kylaq has been supported by higher localisation levels and deeper domestic supplier integration.

To meet growing demand, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has increased production capacity at its Chakan plant by 30%, while also focussing on long-term supplier partnerships, cost competitiveness and operational scale.

Powering the Kylaq is a single 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 115bhp and 178Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The simplified powertrain strategy, combined with competitive pricing, has allowed Skoda to prioritise volume growth rather than pursuing multiple niche configurations.

Feature content has played an important role in strengthening the Kylaq's positioning. Equipment highlights include LED projector headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, touch-based climate controls and an electric sunroof.

Safety has been another key pillar. The Kylaq offers more than 25 safety features as standard, including six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, ABS with EBD, electronic differential lock, multi-collision braking and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. The SUV has also secured a 5-star rating under Bharat NCAP.

The Kylaq's impact is reflected in Skoda's India sales performance. In calendar year (CY) 2025, the brand recorded its highest-ever annual sales in the country, with 72,665 units sold. Nearly 62% of those volumes came from the Kylaq, which contributed over 45,000 units.

The 50,000-unit production milestone underscores how a single high-volume product, backed by localisation, competitive pricing and segment-aligned features, has reshaped Skoda's scale ambitions in India.
