The year 2025 will witness its second and final solar eclipse on the night of 21 September, continuing into 22 September. The Surya Grahan 2025 will begin at 11:00 PM IST and conclude at 3:23 AM IST, according to the Hindu Panchang. This celestial event coincides with the Amavasya tithi, or new moon day, of Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin. This solar eclipse will be visible from regions such as New Zealand, southern Australia, Fiji and parts of Antarctica, it will not be visible in India. Since it will not be seen from the country, the sutak period, which is traditionally observed before and during eclipses, will not apply here.

Surya Grahan Visibility: Will It Be Seen in India?

Although this solar eclipse 2025 will not be visible across India, Vedic astrologers highlight its spiritual and astrological significance. The Sun will be placed in Virgo alongside Mercury and the Moon, while Saturn casts its aspect from Pisces. This unique planetary alignment is believed to bring auspicious outcomes, particularly for individuals born under the Virgo zodiac sign and those whose birth nakshatra is Uttara Phalguni. It is said to be a favorable time to focus on spiritual practices, self-discipline and harnessing cosmic energy for personal growth.

Astrological Significance

Even in places where the Surya Grahan 2025 is not visible, the period holds immense spiritual importance. According to Vedic tradition, chanting the Surya Beej Mantra during a solar eclipse is considered highly beneficial. The mantra “Om Hreem Ghrini Surya Aditya Shreem” is regarded as the Mool Mantra, or root mantra, of Lord Surya. Devotees believe that reciting this mantra can enhance confidence, career growth, vitality and inner radiance. Spiritual practitioners suggest beginning the chanting during this eclipse and continuing the practice regularly, especially on Sundays, for sustained blessings.

Power of the Surya Beej Mantra

Before chanting, it is recommended to recite the Vinayog Mantra, which formally invokes the associated deity, rishi and divine energies linked with the Surya Mantra. This ritual helps establish a sacred connection and aligns the practitioner’s intention with the cosmic forces. Performing a cleansing bath and brief meditation beforehand is also considered essential to create a pure and focused environment for chanting.

Benefits of Chanting Surya Mantra

Chanting the Surya Beej Mantra during this solar eclipse is believed to offer several benefits. It helps enhance wisdom and knowledge, as the Sun is regarded as the presiding deity of both divine and worldly intelligence. It promotes peace of mind, physical energy and prosperity in career and personal life. The practice supports spiritual progress and fosters harmony within one’s home and relationships. While the Surya Grahan of September 2025 may not be visible in India, its spiritual energy offers a meaningful opportunity to realign with inner strength and universal balance through prayer and devotion.
