Google on November 18 unveiled Gemini 3, the next major version of its flagship artificial intelligence model, as the tech giant looks to cement its supremacy in the escalating AI arms race.

What's new in Gemini 3?

Google calls Gemini 3 its most intelligent model yet, which combines all of Gemini's capabilities together. Its reasoning capabilities are built to grasp depth and nuance, whether that means picking up subtle clues in a creative idea or peeling apart the overlapping layers of a difficult problem.

"Gemini 3 is much better at figuring out the context and intent behind your request, so you get what you need with less prompting. It's amazing to think that in just two years, Al has evolved from simply reading text and Images to reading the room," Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a blogpost.

Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis and CTO Koray Kavukcuoglu also mentioned that Gemini 3 is the company’s most capable agentic and vibe-coding model to date, and the strongest model in the world for multimodal understanding.

"Gemini 3 Pro brings a new level of depth and nuance to every interaction. Its responses are smart, concise and direct, trading cliché and flattery for genuine insight — telling you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear," the executives said in a blogpost.

They added that the model acts as a "true thought partner" that gives consumers new ways to understand information, from translating dense scientific concepts by generating code for high-fidelity visualisations to creative brainstorming.

This launch comes nearly a year after Google introduced Gemini 2, which Pichai said laid the groundwork for agentic capabilities and expanded the model's reasoning capabilities, helping it handle more complex tasks and ideas.

How will Gemini 3 be available to consumers and developers?

Gemini 3 will be available to consumers through the company’s Gemini app and to developers through AI Studio, Vertex AI and its newly launched agentic development platform, Google Antigravity. It will also be available through third-party platforms such as Cursor, GitHub, JetBrains, Manus, and Replit among others.

At launch, Google is releasing Gemini 3 Pro in preview, making it available across a suite of its products.

The model will also power Al Mode, Google's AI-powered answer engine-style search experience, offering more complex reasoning and new dynamic user experiences. This includes immersive visual layouts and interactive tools and simulations generated on the fly based on the user's query.

"This is the first time we are shipping Gemini in Search on day one," Pichai said.

How is Google rolling out Gemini 3 Deep Think mode?

Google is also offering access to Gemini 3 Deep Think, a specialised reasoning mode, to safety testers before making it available to Google AI Ultra subscribers. The company says Deep Think provides a "step change" in Gemini 3’s reasoning and multimodal understanding, helping users tackle more complex problems.

Rival OpenAI also introduced a new version of its flagship AI model, GPT-5 to all ChatGPT users and developers in August 2025. The model offers stronger reasoning capabilities, particularly in writing, coding and health care domains, along with faster response times and deeper multimodal features.
