Wall Street closed flat with the S&P adding small gains, ahead of the non-farm payroll numbers and the unemployment rate numbers expected today.


Asian markets stayed cautious as well, ahead of the crucial US employment report.


Led by banks, European markets closed lower as investors remained skeptical over European banks' ability to raise capital. Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti will meet French president Nicolas Sarkozy later in the day.


And it was a quiet session for Dalal Street. The Nifty traded in a range before closing flattish around 4750.
