Vodafone calls govt move 'arbitrary, punitive'

A day after global industry associations wrote to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking reconsideration of the retrospective amendment, Vodafone itself wrote to the PM and finance minister on the issue.

A day after global industry associations wrote to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking reconsideration of the retrospective amendment, Vodafone itself wrote to the PM and finance minister on the issue.

Vodafone Group chief executive officer Vottorio Colao termed the government's move as arbitrary and punitive. He repeated the company's warning, that such retrospective tax move would tarnish India's image among the investment community.


Colao also lashed out against the government saying that the government was going to unprecedented lengths to overturn the Supreme Court verdict.


He also said that the move could create scope for profound injustice.
