Fresh allegations from the family of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan have intensified political tensions in the country, with his sister Aleema Khan claiming there are serious threats to his life while he remains in jail.

Aleema alleged that Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir wants to “kill” her brother — a charge that significantly escalates the already strained standoff between Khan and the military establishment.

Recalling her last meeting with the jailed leader, she said Imran Khan told her, “You know, Asim Munir is going to kill me in jail", News18 has reported.

She added that the family had initially refrained from making the claim public, sharing it only among themselves due to the gravity of the accusation.

“We don’t want to say these things, that Imran Khan is going to be killed in jail,” she said, explaining that they were uncomfortable raising such serious concerns without concrete proof.

However, Aleema indicated that recent health developments have heightened the family’s anxiety. She questioned how someone she described as “perfectly healthy” could suddenly begin facing medical issues while in custody.

According to her, several doctors have privately suggested that one possible explanation for unexplained health complications could be “slow poisoning.” She acknowledged that no medical documentation has been presented to substantiate the claim but said the family had been told “many times” that such a possibility could not be ruled out.

Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been incarcerated since 2023 after being convicted in multiple cases. He and his party maintain that the charges are politically motivated.

His ties with Pakistan’s powerful military establishment deteriorated sharply during his time in office and worsened after he was removed through a parliamentary no-confidence vote in 2022.

Amid the growing controversy, Aleema said the family’s immediate demand is that Imran Khan be examined at a reputable hospital by independent specialists, with his personal physician present. She stressed that a transparent medical evaluation is essential to address concerns and ensure his safety.
