Former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has firmly denied that she or her husband, former president Bill Clinton, had any improper links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, insisting the couple have been transparent and have nothing to conceal.
Speaking to the BBC during an interview in Berlin, Hillary Clinton called for the full public release of government documents linked to Epstein. “We have no links. We have a very clear record that we’ve been willing to talk about,” she said. Referring to her husband’s past travel, she added that Bill Clinton “took some rides on the airplane for his charitable work. I don’t recall ever meeting [Epstein].”
Her remarks come as both Clintons prepare to testify before the US House Oversight Committee, which is investigating Epstein’s connections to influential figures and how authorities handled information about his crimes. The couple have been asked to give closed-door depositions, although Hillary Clinton said she would prefer the proceedings to be public. “We will show up, but we think it would be better to have it in public,” she said.
She also questioned the fairness of the process. “I just want it to be fair. I want everybody treated the same way. That’s not true for my husband and me,” Clinton said.
Hillary Clinton accused the Trump administration of deliberately delaying the release of Epstein-related files. “Get the files out. They are slow-walking it,” she said, arguing that the focus on the Clintons was designed to distract from Donald Trump. “Look at this shiny object. We’re going to have the Clintons, even Hillary Clinton, who never met the guy,” she added.
Officials from the Department of Justice have said there are no further files to release, a position that has drawn criticism from lawmakers, mostly Democrats, who accuse the department of withholding internal memos, emails and notes linked to Epstein.
Donald Trump’s name appears multiple times in documents that have already been released, though he has denied any wrongdoing, saying he had been “totally exonerated.”
Bill Clinton has acknowledged flying on Epstein’s private jet in the early 2000s for work connected to the Clinton Foundation, but has consistently denied ever visiting Epstein’s private island.
Hillary Clinton also addressed her own limited contact with Epstein’s circle, saying she had met his associate Ghislaine Maxwell “on a few occasions”.
Hillary Clinton is scheduled to give her deposition on February 26, with Bill Clinton set to testify the following day, as scrutiny over Epstein’s powerful connections continues to intensify.
