The son-in-law and daughter-in-law of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei were killed in the latest US-Israel strikes on Tehran, a member of the Tehran City Council said on Saturday, according to Reuters, which cited Iran’s Young Journalists Club.
The reported deaths came after overnight strikes that US and Israeli officials described as targeting strategic military infrastructure. Iranian state media said multiple explosions were heard across Tehran, with emergency services dispatched to several affected areas. Independent verification of the casualties, including the deaths of Khamenei’s relatives, was not immediately possible.
Officials in Washington and Jerusalem have not publicly commented on the reported deaths. Previous statements from both governments characterized the operation as limited and aimed at degrading what they called threats to regional security.
Separately, Israel’s Channel 12 network reported that 30 bombs were dropped on a compound linked to Khamenei during the joint operation. Channel 12 journalist Amit Segal, who is considered close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said Khamenei was underground at the time but probably not in his own bunker. No official confirmation of that report was immediately available.
The identities of the son-in-law and daughter-in-law killed in the strikes have not been formally disclosed. Social media reports circulating in Iran did not specify which branch of Khamenei’s family was affected.
Khamenei has three sons and two daughters, all of whom are married into prominent clerical and political families. His son Mostafa Khamenei is married to the daughter of the late Ayatollah Azizollah Khoshvaght. Mojtaba Khamenei is married to Zahra Haddad Adel, daughter of Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, a former speaker of the Iranian parliament. Masoud Khamenei is believed to be married to a daughter of Seyyed Mohsen Kharazi, a member of the Assembly of Experts. Meysam Khamenei, the youngest son, is married to a daughter of Mahmoud Lolachian, a well-known bazaar merchant.
Khamenei’s daughters Bushra and Hoda are also married into influential families. Bushra is married to Mohammad Javad Mohammadi Golpayegani, son of Gholamhossein Mohammadi Golpayegani, who serves as Khamenei’s chief of staff. Hoda is married to Mesbah al-Hoda Bagheri Kani, a member of a prominent clerical family.
The reported deaths of close relatives of the Supreme Leader are likely to intensify domestic pressure on Tehran’s leadership to respond. Iranian state television aired footage of black-clad mourners gathering outside government buildings, while clerics called for national unity in televised addresses.
Earlier, some unconfirmed Israeli media reports also speculated on the death of Khemenei. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi told NBC News in an interview that Khamenei was still alive, "as far as I know."
Iran has vowed that attacks on its territory will not go unanswered. International leaders have urged restraint amid fears that further escalation could ignite a broader regional conflict, with oil prices rising sharply in early trading on concerns about instability in the Gulf.
