Freshly released documents linked to the Jeffrey Epstein case have revealed that an Indian girl was among the victims of his trafficking network, with US authorities actively attempting to trace her in order to provide compensation through an official victims’ fund.
An internal email dated January 13, 2020 shows American officials discussing steps to locate the victim in India so that she could access financial and therapeutic support available under US victim compensation schemes. The email, titled “Epstein Victims,” contains several redactions, with personal identifiers removed.
The communication highlights efforts to work through official diplomatic channels if the victim’s contact details could be obtained.
“Regarding the individual located in India. If you can get me her address and contact information, I will coordinate with our colleagues at the embassy there. Please call me if you have any additional questions.”
Compensation and support efforts outlined
According to a report by The Pioneer, the email exchange focused on ensuring victims were informed about compensation procedures and support services. Officials discussed the New York Crime Victims Compensation scheme and directed that completed applications be forwarded for processing.
The email also referred to paperwork being sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and mentioned coverage for therapy sessions under emergency victim assistance programmes for those eligible.
The reference to the Indian victim underscores that US authorities were making formal efforts to include victims outside the United States within the scope of justice and restitution processes.
Developments after Epstein’s death
The correspondence took place several months after Epstein’s death in August 2019. He died in a New York jail while awaiting trial on charges related to the sex trafficking of underage girls. US authorities ruled his death a suicide.
Despite the case ending without a trial, investigations continued into identifying victims and facilitating compensation through established legal mechanisms.
