As commercial airlines scale back services across parts of the Middle East, private jet operators are reporting a sharp spike in emergency charter requests. According to a Daily Mail report, some passengers are paying as much as GPB 260,000, roughly Rs 3.2 crore, for a single private flight out of the region.
Charter brokers say inquiries began climbing as soon as major carriers started suspending or rerouting flights due to security concerns. In several Gulf cities, commercial departure boards have thinned out, leaving limited seats and uncertain schedules. For those unwilling to wait, private terminals have become the fallback option.
Riyadh is emerging as a practical exit point. Aviation sources say aircraft availability there remains steadier compared to some other regional hubs. As a result, private security firms are organising overland transfers from Dubai and other Gulf cities to the Saudi capital. The journey by road can take close to 10 hours, often carried out in coordinated SUV convoys arranged through security contractors.
Charter costs have surged for two main reasons. First, aircraft are in short supply relative to demand. Second, many jets must be repositioned from Europe or other regions before picking up passengers, adding to fuel, crew and landing expenses. Brokers say clients are not negotiating heavily. Speed is the priority.
Industry insiders describe the current pricing as well above standard long-haul charter rates. Under normal circumstances, a comparable private flight would cost significantly less. The premium reflects urgency and limited options rather than luxury preference.
The situation underscores how travel disruptions play out differently across income brackets. While most travellers are monitoring airline updates and rebooking cancelled tickets, a small segment is able to arrange tailored departures within hours.
Aviation authorities continue to adjust airspace guidance as the regional security picture evolves. For now, private jet terminals in parts of the Gulf are seeing traffic that feels closer to crisis response than routine business travel.
