Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Israel’s parliament during his two-day visit, recalling a personal coincidence that he said deepens his connection with the country.

Speaking to lawmakers, he said, "I was on the same day that India formally recognised Israel, September 17, 1950." He described his return as meaningful, noting that he had earlier visited as the first Indian prime minister to do so. He said he felt a natural affinity toward the country and expressed satisfaction at being back.

In a strong show of support, PM Modi conveyed condolences over the loss of lives in the October 7 attack. He said, "We feel your pain, we share your grief. India stands with Israel firmly, with full conviction in this moment and beyond." Calling the attack “barbaric,” he emphasised that no justification exists for targeting civilians. His remarks underscored India’s position of standing by Israel during difficult times.

Drawing parallels with India’s own past, PM Modi referred to the Mumbai attacks, stating, "India has also endured the pain of terrorism for a long time. We remember the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the innocent lives lost, including Israeli citizens."

He reiterated India’s firm approach, adding, "Like you, we have a consistent and uncompromising policy of zero tolerance for terrorism with no double standards." He stressed that terrorism destabilizes societies and damages trust, warning that its impact extends far beyond borders.

Highlighting the broader implications of extremism, PM Modi said, "Countering terrorism requires sustained and coordinated global action because terror anywhere threatens peace everywhere."

He urged nations to work collectively to address the threat, noting that peace and stability depend on consistent international cooperation.

The prime minister also addressed the situation in the Middle East, expressing support for diplomatic initiatives. He referred to a UN-backed framework, saying, "The Gaza Peace Initiative that was endorsed by the UN Security Council offers a pathway."

He added, "We believe that it holds the promise of a just and durable peace for all the people of the region, including by addressing the Palestine issue." Acknowledging the region’s complexities, he noted that progress may be difficult but necessary.

PM Modi highlighted the deepening relationship between the two countries, describing them as "democracies shaped by history and focused on the future."

He said the partnership rests on shared goals and mutual benefit. Stressing economic and technological cooperation, he pointed out India’s rapid growth and Israel’s innovation strengths. "Israel is a powerhouse of innovation and technological leadership," he said, adding that this creates opportunities for collaboration.

He spoke about expanding economic ties, mentioning ongoing work toward a trade agreement to unlock potential. Modi also emphasized defence cooperation, saying strong partnerships are crucial in uncertain times.

Referring to joint initiatives and frameworks, he noted that both countries are working together across multiple sectors to strengthen their engagement.

Ending on a forward-looking tone, Modi called for collective efforts guided by "wisdom, courage, and humanity." He reiterated India’s commitment to dialogue and stability in the region, expressing hope that cooperation would lead to lasting peace.
