Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, Asim Munir to meet Donald Trump at World Economic Forum in Davos

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are expected to meet US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the Swiss resort town of Davos, where all three leaders will be attending the annual gathering.

According to Pakistani news outlet The News, Prime Minister Sharif is scheduled to depart for Zurich on Monday, leading a large delegation that includes five federal ministers. Sources said Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Force Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is also likely to be part of the delegation.

Officials told The News on Saturday evening that the proposed meeting between Sharif and Trump would be significant given current international developments and is expected to take place on the margins of the WEF.

The US President Trump is due to arrive on Tuesday accompanied by a large delegation. Sources said the schedule for the Sharif–Trump meeting would be finalised and announced shortly after the US president’s arrival.

A number of global leaders are attending the forum, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng, Argentine President Javier Milei, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Swiss Confederation President Guy Parmelin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Sources said Prime Minister Sharif and members of his team are also expected to hold several bilateral meetings with key figures, in addition to attending seminars and conferences during their three-day stay in Davos.

On his return, the Pakistan prime minister will make an overnight stop in London, where he is scheduled to attend private engagements.
