India has not yet decided whether to join the Gaza Peace Board initiated by US President Donald Trump and is unlikely to participate in its inaugural meeting scheduled for February 19, according to a report by The Economic Times.
The Indian government is currently examining the proposal, the report said, adding that New Delhi has not taken a final call on its participation in the initiative.
The issue was discussed during the recently concluded India–Arab League Foreign Ministers’ meeting, where India heard views from Arab League members that have agreed to join the board. However, officials said India is still weighing its own course of action.
The matter is expected to figure prominently during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Israel later this month, where regional security and Gaza’s future are likely to be discussed.
India has consistently advocated a two-state solution to resolve the Israel–Palestine conflict, and officials are assessing how joining the board could affect New Delhi’s engagement with Palestine.
One of the key challenges for India is the presence of Pakistan and Turkey on the board. Pakistan had earlier been encouraged by the Trump administration to consider sending stabilisation forces to Gaza, a development that adds complexity to India’s decision-making.
The February 19 meeting is expected to bring together world leaders who accepted Trump’s invitation in January, along with members of an executive committee for Gaza that would oversee governance, security and redevelopment of the territory.
India’s participation remains under consideration as New Delhi evaluates the political, diplomatic and regional implications of joining the initiative.
