Leaders across political parties have passed on their batons to their scions in the polls that will elect the new 243-member assembly in Bihar.

Lalu’s emotional response came through a hand-written letter, a few hours after Singh offered to quit by writing a letter to the party president.

The jailed former chief minister, serving sentences in Ranchi in fodder scam cases, came out with a couple of tweets in his native dialect Bhojpuri to take potshots at Kumar.

Though his doctor was put under quarantine after the report surfaced, Lalu’s son Tejashwi Yadav, who is currently heading the party, took to Twitter to highlight his concerns.

He also claimed the mobile number mentioned as that of the owner, however, belongs to a former RJD MLA.

A bench, comprising Chief Justice of India S A Bobde, and Justices B R Gavai and Surya Kant, sought response from Yadav on the plea filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Prasad had on January 16 appeared before the special CBI court in connection with RC/47 case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crore from Doranda Treasury during his chief ministerial regime in Bihar in the 1990s.

According to the CBI advocate, Prasad was asked 34 questions in the court and the former Bihar chief minister answered many of them in negative.

Better known for his earthy sense of humour, Prasad who is at Ranchi serving sentences in fodder scam cases, expressed the sentiment with a political flourish posting an Urdu couplet on his official twitter handle understandably operated by his close aides.

Prasad, who had founded the party in 1997, is at Ranchi serving sentences in fodder scam cases and his nomination papers were submitted at the RJD state headquarters by his sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav.

The revelation was made at a monsoon session of the Bihar legislature where the Excess Expenditure Appropriation Bill, 2019 was being discussed.

This is the first full-scale review of VIP protectees by the Union home ministry after the Modi 2.0 government took charge.

It could be an indication that all is not well with the party that had ruled Bihar for more than a decade and still has the largest number of members in the state assembly.

The RJD president is under treatment for blood pressure, sugar and kidney ailment at the Ranchi-based Rajendra Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences since December 2017 after he was sent to jail by a court.

Although Prasad has dominated the political landscape of Bihar for close to three decades, capturing Pataliputra that came into being after the 2008 delimitation has remained a Sisyphean task for the family that controls the RJD.

Prasad was responding to Kumar's oft repeated remark at election rallies that the days of the lantern are over a metaphor for the improved power situation in Bihar as also the alleged decline in RJDs political fortunes in the state.

The combine for the first time includes Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan's LJP while the opposition alliance has "tried, tested and failed" leaders and is marred by "sabotage and rebellion", Sushil Modi told PTI in an interview, explaining the rationale for his poll prediction.

The CBI, which sought nod from a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi to file its response to the bail plea of Yadav, said the RJD leader is likely to get involved in political activities and misuse the grant of bail ahead of upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
