YouTube Music starts rolling out 2025 Recap with new AI chat feature

YouTube Music has started rolling out its 2025 Recap, introducing a new AI-driven “Ask about your listening” experience that lets users explore their year through personalised questions. The rollout has begun in late November, continuing the platform’s trend of releasing the annual Recap before December.

The Recap can be accessed by tapping the profile avatar in the top-right corner of the YouTube Music app on Android and iOS, followed by selecting the “Your Recap” section. As with earlier versions, users see a story-style presentation summarising their activity, along with options to jump into specific sections.

The 2025 edition opens with details such as total listening minutes and longest streak, followed by the most-played song and top five tracks. Users can also save their playlist, including a dedicated September to November 2025 autumn playlist. A calendar view highlights listening patterns for the top artist under the “Your musical bestie” section, while the “Musical Passport” showcases the number of regions or countries whose artists the user listened to. Other sections highlight top albums, podcasts, and genres, concluding with a shareable graphic summarising the year.

The standout addition this year is the AI chat feature, built on YouTube’s “Ask Music” capability. The feature allows users to ask natural-language questions about their listening habits and receive responses rendered as colourful, shareable cards. Suggested prompts include: “How did my listening change over the year?”, “Was my music more chill or hype?”, “Describe my listening as a weather report,” and “What animal matches my music taste?”

The AI uses the user’s YouTube history to interpret patterns, highlight trends, and offer insights beyond the standard Recap cards. It can also surface genre-specific summaries, like top electronic dance music tracks, and compare listening styles such as exploration versus repeat habits.
The 2025 Recap continues YouTube Music’s effort to blend personalisation with interactive formats, and the addition of an AI chat component makes this year’s edition a more conversational and exploratory experience for users.
