Apple Watch

Apple refreshed its smartwatch portfolio this year with three models aimed at very different audiences. At the top sits the Apple Watch Ultra 3, built for endurance athletes and outdoor specialists and priced accordingly at Rs 89,990. It is impressive, but it is not the watch most people should be thinking about. For everyday users, first-time buyers, and those upgrading from older models, the real choice narrows down to the Apple Watch SE 3 starting at Rs 25,999 and the Apple Watch Series 11 starting at Rs 41,999.

At a glance, the SE 3 looks like the budget option, but this year Apple has narrowed the gap more than ever. Both watches run the same S10 chip, which means day-to-day performance feels identical. Apps open quickly, animations are smooth, and there is no sense that the SE 3 is slower or compromised in normal use. Apple has also brought the always-on Retina display to the SE line for the first time, a change that immediately makes the watch feel more premium and easier to glance at throughout the day.

Safety and Health features

Core health and safety features are shared across both models. You get continuous heart rate monitoring, alerts for unusually high or low heart rates, irregular rhythm notifications, and cardio fitness insights. Sleep tracking is equally robust on both watches, including Apple’s new sleep score and wrist temperature tracking, which can reveal longer-term trends in wellbeing. Cycle tracking with retrospective ovulation estimates is also available on both, making the SE 3 far more capable than previous entry-level Apple Watches.

In daily use, gestures such as wrist flick to dismiss notifications and double tap to trigger actions work the same way on both models. Safety features such as Emergency SOS, fall detection, and crash detection are also identical. Both watches are water resistant up to 50 metres, suitable for swimming, and both support fast charging, although the Series 11 tops up slightly faster.

Where the Series 11 pulls ahead is in depth rather than basics. Battery life is longer in standard use, stretching up to 24 hours compared to the SE 3’s 18 hours, which matters if you are a heavy user or travel frequently. The display is brighter and more refined, reaching up to 2000 nits outdoors and using a wider-angle OLED panel that improves visibility from different angles.

Health tracking is another clear divider. The Series 11 includes advanced sensors and apps such as ECG, Blood Oxygen monitoring, hypertension notifications, and an electrical heart sensor. These features are valuable if you actively monitor your health or have specific medical concerns, but many users will never rely on them daily.

Design also plays a role. The Series 11 is thinner, offers more case materials including titanium, and comes in a wider range of colours. The SE 3 keeps things simpler with aluminium cases and fewer finishes, which may actually appeal to buyers who prefer a clean, understated look.

Ultimately, the Apple Watch SE 3 delivers great value and covers nearly everything most people expect from a smartwatch in 2025. The Series 11 makes sense if you want the best display, longer battery life, and deeper health insights. For everyone else, the SE 3 proves that choosing the cheaper Apple Watch no longer feels like a compromise.
